This Rhodesian Ridgeback was a challenge to paint…..which is fun for me. Many layers of yellow ochre, burnt sienna, & purple washes to get his face to look right but I love how it turned out!

What a beautiful day…..not just weather wise, but mostly because an announcement was made this morning that Holy Rosary Catholic School is staying open!! Back in late January it was announced that Holy Rosary of Flint and Holy Redeemer of Burton was to close after this school year. Everyone was shocked and saddened but immediately decided Holy Rosary wasn’t going down without a fight. The staff, students, parents and friends of Holy Rosary had weekly meetings and held many fundraising events over the past 16 weeks and raised an amazing $67,000 for the school. The local media were at several key meetings which kept the community stay interested and involved. Many thanks to all the people who worked passionately, prayed faithfully, and donated generously to our wonderful Catholic School.
After the good news, the students, staff and many parents went on the annual walk-a-thon (pictures above). The spirit and energy was joyful……..Holy Rosary Catholic School….”Where the Son always Shines”

Why is it when we have a pet, their name always morphs into something strange. We named her Daisy, then we started calling her Daisy Doo, now it’s Baby Doo …..we also call her Chunky Monkey

The weekend started with Ryan having a couple buddies stay the night. They had a blast fishing……Saturday morning they caught enough fish for lunch! It was tasty. Also Friday night Kyle’s band “Here Lies All Hope” played a couple songs at the Hangar. They did an awesome job…..one of the songs they wrote themselves…very impressive for a group of 16 year olds!
Saturday Night we had a bonfire with a bunch of friends and my parents came too! The kids jumped on the trampoline most the night. And, of course, Sunday was Mother’s Day so we spent the day at my parents house. We had a cookout, the kids helped Grandpa put up their trampoline and Kevin & Tayler planted flowers for my Mom. It was a great day….could have been warmer but at least it didn’t rain!

Mother Nature at her best!
I went around my house yesterday and snapped some photos of my delicate new flowers and foliage. When I think of Mother’s Day, I also think of flowers. We buy flowers for my Mom every year and plant them around her bird bath (actually….ever since I became a Mother 16 years ago, my wonderful husband does the planting because it’s my day off! :) ) My Mom said she loves it because all through the summer when she looks out her window or is out in the yard she sees those flowers and thinks of us…..and hopefully it makes her think of how much we love and cherish her. Happy Mother’s Day Mom….we love you!!
I found this wonderful poem on the internet and wanted to share it with you…..
What is a Mother?
A mother is someone to shelter and guide us,
To love us, whatever we do,
With a warm understanding and infinite patience,
And wonderful gentleness, too.
How often a mother means swift reassurance
In soothing our small, childish fears,
How tenderly mothers watch over their children
And treasure them all through the years!
The heart of a mother is full of forgiveness
For any mistake, big or small,
And generous always in helping her family
Whose needs she has placed above all.
A mother can utter a word of compassion
And make all our cares fall away,
She can brighten a home with the sound of her laughter
And make life delightful and gay.
A mother possesses incredible wisdom
And wonderful insight and skill -
In each human heart is that one special corner
Which only a mother can fill!

I have missed the daily paintings so much that I figured out a way to get back into it. Usually in the early morning while Kyle is getting ready for school I sit on the couch drinking my coffee, listening to Fox News and sketching. Well, I have over 50 sketches accumulated over the past several months…..more than I can even paint at this point. So, instead of sketching for that 1.5 hours I will instead do a daily painting at the dining room table. I am still drinking my coffee and listening to Fox News (and crackin’ the whip on Kyle every so often), but I am PAINTING! YAY!
On the licensing front, I am still overwhelmed by deadlines….which is a blessing….right? Just kidding…it really is a blessing, I am just ready for a break. We usually go to Missouri to spend Easter with family there but we couldn’t this year because our boys were off school at different times….instead we stayed home and I worked…I think that is why I am feeling so overwhelmed. I am finishing up two fabric lines…..one is a northwoods theme and the other is an autumn line. I am gearing up to design a huge Christmas program for a very large trading company. I am way overdue on my Legacy calendar sketches…..thank God they are kind and patient. My agents are off to the Surtex show in NY this month…..which leads to more licensing agreements and more deadlines for artwork. Whoo-hoo!

This cute little guy was on our deck yesterday. I have never seen a frog like this before. Kevin spotted the markings on his back that look like a primitive drawing of a person. The top photo was taken with a flash so the color is washed out but you can see part of his cute lil’ face.

House & Studio

Studio
Wow! The weather this weekend couldn’t have been better. The sun was shining and the air was warm…not too cold & not too hot. A great weekend to open all the windows, work in the flower gardens, have a cookout and just ride around in the golf cart enjoying the fresh air. As you can see from the photos our pond is nice and full. I will have to take another picture in August when the pond has lost a lot of water for you to see the difference, but until then, we are enjoying it’s fullness this spring. Wishing you a great week!
