”BORN TO BE WILD”
Barry Forster (guitar), Kyle Kogut (drums), Kevin Kogut (vocals)
not pictured- John Manier (bass) & Jim Wilcox (keyboards)
Last night at Nightingale Lanes fun was had by all at a fundraising event for Holy Rosary Catholic School. The children from the school (grades K-8) collected pledges from people in the community for two weeks prior to the event and last night they bowled their hearts out! Ryan and his classmates bowled several games thoughout the evening, ate pizza, drank pop, met & received autographs from the Flint Generals Hockey Team, then danced the night away to classic rock. Barry Forster & The Green Bottle Fly entertained us from 6pm-9pm. Also, yesterday was Kyle’s 16th birthday and he gladly sat in on the drums so his Dad could be the “front man” during the classic song “Born to be Wild”. This was the best photo of the night……most of the pics are blurry or they look scary
with the “red eye” effect from taking photos with a flash.

OMG….16 already!?!?

Kyle turns 16 today!! Hard to believe it but it’s true!

We got Kyle a cell phone for his birthday. Go ahead and give him a call, his number is…………just kiddin’!
Trust me, by the end of the day, I’m sure he’ll have a zillion friends calling him!

Kasey was the first dog Kevin and I adopted after we were married. Someone I worked with at the time found her wondering around the parking lot of their apartment complex and knew we were moving into a house soon so she invited us to come and see the puppy. Of course I fell in love instantly and we brought her home with us (we were living in an apartment too but we were moving into our first house in a couple weeks) She had a litter of twelve…one of which we kept and named Rocky. After giving birth, however, her health was never quite the same and unfortunately she died of cancer at the young age of five in 1994. After her death we were watching Animal Planet’s “Breed All About It” and the dogs they were showcasing were flat-coated retrievers. We were shocked because they looked just like Kasey did. Not only did she look like a flat-coated retriever but the description of this breed’s personality fit her exactly. She was very smart, energetic and loving. This breed is also known to get cancer. It was fun to paint her again after all these years.

This is my sweet Kitty Girl. Some paintings just come easier than others. I went way over my goal of one-hour-paintings….what can I say…..old habits die hard. She turned out wonderful though, so no regrets. Have a blessed day!!!
Buster, our boxer

Oh what a challenge it was to paint our boxer, Buster, with all those folds in his face. His droopy blood-shot eyes, wrinkled skin and pug nose are all part of his charm. Again, it took me longer than an hour to paint this gem….. just like when I painted “My Daisy” below. I still see things I would work on, but there I go again working my paintings “to death”. Still loving this daily painting challenge!! Hope you enjoy seeing them!

PN047-Watermelon Crows
This design has been available as a rug pattern for a while now, but I kept getting people asking for it in a punchneedle embroidery pattern, so here it is
I will have it ready to purchase soon…as with the design below, I have to write the directions and get the stamp made.

PN056-Folk Floral
This will be available soon as a punchneedle embroidery pattern. I just have to write the directions and get the stamp made. This design reminds me of an antique rug. I plan to do more of this nature.

Saturday when the geese flew in, Daisy was in the studio with me. The geese had her full attention so I took some beautiful pictures of her. The morning sun was shining through the door lighting up her silky coat. The photos turned out so nice that I just couldn’t wait to paint her.
My goal is to spend only 1 hour per painting, however, this painting took 1 hour & 20 minutes. The result was worth the extra time……….
Life outside my Studio…..

Canadian Geese on our frozen pond outside the studio March 14
This cute couple show up every spring……they are a little early this year. They never stay long any way because of our dogs, but I enjoy seeing them fly in for a visit.

30 Wild Turkeys outside the studio March 11

They spotted me & decided to move out
Kevin & I were lucky enough Wednesday afternoon to see 30 turkeys come out of the woods in our side yard. We were in the studio working & we watched them walk up beside our house & out of sight. They must have went right through our front yard & came down the driveway to the studio because the next thing I know they are right outside my studio window (pictured above). I grabbed my camera and started shooting. They wised up to my presence pretty quick. Then they walked around the back of the studio & walked by Kevin’s window, across the yard (top photo) & back into the woods……all the while our dogs napped & missed it all.

I hope these paintings show beautifully on your computer. After I scan them and pull them up in photoshop, they look dull and dark so I bump up the brightness & contrast so the colors will “pop” like the original paintings. They look pretty good on my computer monitor, but knowing everyone’s is different, I am not sure how they appear to you……drop me a line and let me know if they look good or if they are too bright on your screen. Thanks for your input!

I have been tossing around the idea of doing a painting a day for a couple months now. I discovered a website called “daily painters” where artists do a painting a day and post it on the site in hopes of selling the painting. I check the site a few times a week and I get so inspired by those artists. Because I have so many deadlines for my licensees, I didn’t know how I would find the time to devote to “daily painting”. Well I came up with a solution…….I only get 1 hour to complete the painting! Not only will this solve the lack-of-time problem, but it will force me to work quickly and not get in a “rut”. I’m sure many artists can relate to the problem of “knowing when to quit” while painting. Sometimes I work a painting to death…”just a little more here…just a little more there”. When I first started my business, I use to paint really fast and loose, however, over the years I can see that my watercolors are much tighter and more detailed. Looking back, some of my most successful licensed art were the paintings that just flowed out the end of my brush….they weren’t forced….they have a fresh look. I know I need to simplify my designs and paint more quickly and loosely, so I think doing a painting a day within 1 hour will help me break out of the cycle.
